New York State
Society of Professional Engineers
Scope of work:
In early 2000,
the new president elect of the New
York State Society of Professional Engineers was looking for a mechanism
to communicate his vision for the next two years. The Society had begun
a strategic planning process the year before, but that initiative had
only limited success because it set out to accomplish too much in a short
period of time. The president elect wanted to “take the strategic plan
to the next level” by focusing an eighteen month program on a limited
number of strategic objectives.
At the president
elect’s request, The Bukiewicz Organization (TBO) contracted with
the State Society to design and deliver a two day planning retreat in
March of this year. An additional contract calls for a half-day workshop
on “Leadership for Engineers” at the Society’s annual meeting in Lake
Placid this June.
Accomplishments:
The thirty-five
participants at the March planning session represented local Society chapters
from across New York State. They all agreed the session was very successful.
Structured activities guided people through a process that not only provided
a focused direction, but also gave them more tactical steps and milestones
to get there. The president elect felt the group accomplished more than
any other State Society meeting he had attended in his long history with
the organization. He is confident that his program will come to fruition
during his term and now has the tools to objectively measure that. He
is looking forward to moving on one of these initiatives in June by having
TBO present a leadership workshop tailored to the engineering profession.
